We hope this article provides some background and answers to some of the questions asked by the college of the holy cross.A supplemental essay is one that you provide as a response to the initial essay you submitted to the college of the holy cross. The entire idea is to see if your grades are in line with your responses. It's a bit of a guessing game, but generally the more interesting, constructive, and relevant to the essay is the more accurate your score will be.Because you will not be graded in the original essay on the topic of the rebut paper, a writer must have a good grasp of that topic and be able to think of reasons to support his or her position. The goal of the college of the holy cross is to see how well you deal with the subjects addressed in the rebutting paper. It is not to assess your writing skills. So it is important that you know about rebutting papers.When you have written the rebut paper and have taken care to write something relevant and in context, you then can begin the process of writing a 'supplement.' You should understand that your goal is to make sure that your scores are not too low. You also want to ensure that your scores are as high as possible.Once you have written the rebut paper and have provided something that supports your case the writing process begins. You are allowed one rebuttal essay. If you submit an essay to the college that you consider redundant or does not support your position, you will be instructed to edit the essay and resubmit it. While you are making the corrections that are required to the rebutting paper you are preparing to write a new supplement.Once you have completed the rebut paper and you have submitted it and the course of correction have been made, then you can submit your supplemental essay. When you submit your rebut paper you will re ceive a confirmation that it has been received. This usually occurs within 24 hours. When you do get your supplemental essay, it will be reviewed by a committee of faculty and staff who will determine if it is up to our standards.In order to qualify for the benefits of the rebutting supplemental essay, you must submit it as a separate essay from your original essay. You are encouraged to re-edit and submit it as an independent essay and not as part of the original essay.The college of the holy cross offers a 'supplement' to the final exam, a supplemental essay.
